What’s in Your Stocking?

Greetings friends! Can you believe we’re down to just one week until Christmas!

I’m super excited about Christmas this year, seeing as most of the gifts I’m giving this year are handmade (even a few by me!)

And with all my big Christmas wrapped, I need to get going on filling up those empty Christmas stockings!

It’s easy to forget about the stockings, since most of our gift giving is wrapped and put under the tree. This year, I’m not going to forget about them or wait til the last minute to fill them!

Need Some Ideas?

Visit a dollar store.

Dollar stores are a great way to fill up a stocking! Not only are they cheap, but many of the items there are surprisingly good-quality, similar to what you would find at a larger retailer. I like them because $10 can go a long way toward filling up a stocking with knick-knacks, candles, toys, books, and my personal favorite, candy!

Buy the basics.

When my husband was a child, his parents would fill his and his sisters’ stockings with the essentials, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, hairbrushes, shampoo, and other toiletries. Maybe it’s a little boring, but they bought things the kids actually needed… and was somehow able to turn necessities into gifts!

Theme your stockings.

This last idea is a fun and simple one. Pick a theme that suits the person you’re filling the stocking for, perhaps something the person likes, and buy gifts that are related to the theme! Here are some examples to help you along:

  • Handyman: Tools, Screws (not loose), Tape Measure, Duck Tape.
  • Girly Girl: Eyeshadow, Blush, Lip Gloss, Hairbrush.
  • Video Gamer: Games, Batteries, Gaming Magazine or Network Subscription.
  • Gardener: Seed Packets, Gloves, Gardening Tools.
  • Movie Buff: Movie Theater Gift Card, Candy, Popcorn.
  • Cat Owner: Pet Store Gift Card, Cat Treats, Cat Toys, Kitten (if you’re adventurous).

Well those are all the stocking ideas I can think of right now.  Does your family put up Christmas stockings?  What do you usually put in your stockings? If you have any tips we didn’t cover, please let us know! Thanks!
