A Humble Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving in Humbleville

Happy Thanksgiving!

Can you believe it’s already Thanksgiving again? Time for turkey (although this year we’re having Turducken!), pumpkin pie, and cranberry sauce, my favorite!

Thanksgiving is without a doubt one of my favorite days of the year, second only to Christmas Eve! And no, not just because of the food…

There are plenty of reasons to love Thanksgiving:

  1. Thanksgiving dinner.
  2. Turkey Cranberry subs from Publix.
  3. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
  4. Football games.
  5. Black Friday advertisements.

But the primary reason I love Thanksgiving is because it gives us the opportunity to spend time with family and friends, a luxury that has become rare in today’s society. We’re so caught up in our busy schedules that it’s hard to set time aside to enjoy the company of loved ones. I’m no exception. My to-do list grows larger every day and it seems harder and harder to get something marked off. So I appreciate a holiday that forces me off my laptop and gets me to do something much more important, share a meal with my family, something I truly cherish.

Thanksgiving also gives us the opportunity to appreciate what we have, as little or as much as that may be. It’s easy to think about all the things that we don’t have instead of being grateful for the things we do have. I know you’ve heard it all before, but it’s good to remind ourselves how fortunate we are.

If we don’t learn to slow down and relax, our lives will pass right by and we won’t have any time left to appreciate the things we’ve been given. So this Thanksgiving, be thankful for the little things and enjoy this special time with your friends and family.

Hope you all have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Humbly Yours,

The Mayor
